 Tuesday March 16, members of the 13 Pro Community Outreach Committee visited the veterans at VA Medical Center and the VA Nursing Home.
Our group brought newspapers (courtesy of The Southern Illinoisan), items from Shawnee Alliance for Seniors and thank you cards from 13 Pro. It was so rewarding to visit with the veterans and thank them for their service! We had many interesting conversations!

Volunteerism is a key attribute of Southern Illinois and is one of the core goals of 13 Pro. It is the practice of people working on behalf of others often to promote good or improve human quality of life. Not only does our region benefit from our service, but we can individually benefit as well.
Already, 13 Pro’s Community Outreach Committee has organized some wonderful volunteer opportunities for our organization. I often ask myself, why are these committee members and volunteers motivated to help? What does volunteering do for them?
Answers to these questions are different for each volunteer, but I have some personal ideas why.

 As we all know there are many great organizations out there that we can support this holiday season! The 13 Pro Community Outreach Committee encourages all of its members to be thankful for what we have and think about the opportunities where we can help the less fortunate this season.
That is why our committee has chosen to support the Angel Tree organization. Our goal is to sponsor 5 Angel Tree kids with donations from our members. Thank you to those members who donated to this project during the Wine Trail Tour and Holiday Party! We have collected $275 to go towards buying gifts for our Angel Tree kids!
